Fried in a Hubcap: Tales from the 70's
A Travel Adventure Book

Armed with her love of adventure, her wits, her winning smile, and a modest family subsidy, Sukoshi Rice set off over fifty years ago to explore the world. By plane, train, freighter, newspaper truck, bus, hitchhiking and donkey, she traveled four continents and many countries, working as a stable girl, receptionist, shoe salesgirl, restaurant owner, smuggler, shop girl, cook and tourist. Her journeys brought her in contact with the famous and the infamous, the exotic and the just plain creepy. As this book begins, she leaves her comfortable New York life for the travel and adventure that make up these stories.

I, too, lived the vagabond lifestyle in the 1970s. This made Sukoshi Rice’s book relatable. However, “nobody says it better” than she does. Her life, her loves, her ability to live in extreme conditions made me want to send her a box of couscous and a bouquet of flowers. She inspired me to keep on reading to learn how she kept the simple lifestyle despite the world’s pressures to conform. What an adventure! The music, the dope, and a real love for people fueled the journey. Throughout the whole book, I was at her side rooting for more.

i loved this book. Sukoshi Rice is honest and true to herself in this engaging memoir. The universe provides, if you have faith. That faith is tested as the author travels in an ever expanding world of adventure and self exploration. Deeper issues are subtly revealed as Sukoshi discovers where she's from and where she's going. A great read.
