In our world, we identify ourselves by our jobs, careers, partners, families, education, bodies, houses, cars, clothes and money. All this may be what we do and wear and who we spend our time with and love, but it is not who we are.
When we see ourselves by our things and other people, there comes a time when we have to redefine, because these identities naturally change. Children move away, parents age and pass. Relationships change through marriage or death or divorce. We lose our jobs or retire. Many people lately have lost their financial stability, their homes and lifestyles. None of this means anything about us, but sometimes we take it really personally. The messages we give ourselves can support or destroy us.
It is possible to love and respect yourself, no matter what happens in your life. It is not only possible, it is vital. Our inner connection may be all we have some days. How it gets lost can fill a book, and can be different for each of us. How to get it back and feel good about ourselves starts with a few simple steps.
If this speaks to you and where you are in your life and you want to know more and experience relaxation and self acceptance, join me on Wed. March 5 from 6-7 pm at the community room of the United Community Bank in Blairsville. We will talk, do some exercises around self awareness, and map out a personal strategy for learning to feel good about ourselves. There is no charge for the evening and it is open to everyone.
